I am really starting to despise this phrase. Many folks in life and in the media are using it to beat up on those that are successful. For instance, in an article about the NFL owners meetings the commenter states, “I’d be curious to know the names of the papers that DID pay for their writers to stay at that $425 a night hotel…” My question is, “Why do you care?”
Honestly, is the downturn in the economy a license to turn up the volume on the holier-than-thou stereo? Those self-righteous folks that are constantly judging others and other’s behavior? If those folks have committed a crime or been accused of a crime, like Bernie Madoff, then I could understand. But when business goes about doing their business in a completely legitimate way and lay people interject on what they spend and why, it just smacks of jealousy. Those same folks are usually the ones begging for stimulus money, saying that the credit markets need to open up again.
Business needs to spend. That spending supports other businesses. The $425 a night hotel is fighting to stay open just like the local Motel 6. That is how things work. Just because one chooses to not stay at that hotel or it is beyond their means to stay there, does not mean that those that can, shouldn’t.
Business and personal finance are, for the most part, private matters. Even in a down economy/recession/depression/meltdown.
Here is a novel thought. Mind your business. Take care of your business and leave other’s business to them. If you are doing poorly, work to fix it. If you are doing well, great, keep up the good work. But mind your own business.
Thanks.
